Read MoreAs a member of the UAS (United Kingdom Ambulance Service) you will have many and many progression routes and pathways on offer to yourself straight from the get go. Upon starting within the ambulance service, you will receive the EMT role. This is an Emergency Medical Technician, you will mostly drive the ambulances and will have a more limited medical scope than that of a Paramedic or Student Paramedic, in most cases you will be the lowest ranking member in the ambulance. Unless there is an AAP, (Assistant Ambulance Practitioner) as they will drive the ambulances and have a medical scope that is just a tad lower than an EMT's medical capabilities, it will be a role that those who wish to drive more and struggle with medical understanding and want to develop this understanding.
After being an EMT for 1 week you will be a Student Paramedic and will be required to complete a Level 3 CERAD (Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving) and Trauma so that you understand how to handle more complex scenes with your limited scope and so that you can get to these at a safe but fast pace. After 2 weeks of being a Student Paramedic you become a UAS Paramedic where you can apply for other training packages such as: Understanding Pain, Initial Scene Command, Cardiac Arrest Management and much more. And then the ability for Rapid Response Vehicle training as a paramedic.
Well, we will be offering other specialist divisions such as HART NARU (Hazardous Area Response Team) with the ability to progress to SORT (Specialist Operations Response Team), HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service) with the enhanced medical scope and ability to progress to HEMS Doctor or Pilot. And then, St John Ambulance, this will have a pager alert for events such as community runs, football events and much more
